A good FIT?

Smart-Builder made a return appearance at the 2016 edition of the FIT Show at Telford in April. The show was very well attended, expertly run and had a real buzz over the entire 3-day period. The FIT show is aimed primarily at the door, window and conservatory industries and exhibitors from those markets will, no doubt, have been very pleased with the way the show went.

Glaziers and installers are Smart-Builder’s target market and the company typically generates a lot of interest at shows with a focus on glass. With the FIT show organizers putting their energy into the framing industries there was, unfortunately, little to no emphasis on glass or glass processing. Interestingly, there also seems to be little cross-over between the framing and glass processing markets. Smart-Builder’s stand and software did impress and staff reported many instances of arm twisting, with plenty of visitors wanting Smart-Builder to cross the divide and produce software for their window or conservatory businesses.

A great proportion of visitors to Smart-Builder’s stand attended the show with their sole or primary purpose being to speak with staff on the stand. This included a mix of existing customers looking at new products and decision makers from prospective companies wanting to discuss options face to face. In this respect, the show was a success.

The FIT show organizers have indicated that next year’s larger show at the NEC in Birmingham will incorporate a Glass ‘show within a show’. With this in mind, Smart-Builder have provisionally booked to return. However, with a busy tradeshow season this year (Smart-Builder are also at Glassbuild America, AusFenEx and Glasstec) there is a lot of pressure on the shows to perform. Next year Smart-Builder will also attend China Glass and the recently announced dates clash regrettably with the 2017 FIT Show.

As a final thought, there is clearly a need in the UK glass industry for a native show. Whether the FIT show picks up the baton or somebody else does, we will have to see. Certainly, Smart-Builder would love to be part of such a show.
